Jump v. Legacy Tools
Remote Access Software Comparison
Jump Technology has a number of advantages over legacy remote access software tools.
Firewall Compatibility
To use VNC or pcAnywhere through firewalls, the remote computer's firewall must be configured to allow incoming traffic, weakening the security of the network on which the remote computer resides. Jump Technology, on the other hand, requires no firewall configuration, making it easier to implement and enabling you to keep all of your default security settings in-place.
Centralized Management
While pcAnywhere and some incarnations of VNC have some rudimentary capabilities for centralized management of computers with remote access software installed, Bomgar's Jump Technology enables centralized management of Jump-enabled remote computers via the Bomgar Box administrative interface.
Auditability
VNC and pcAnywhere keep no logs of what happens during remote access sessions, leaving you in the dark about help desk performance and potential breaches of protocol. Bomgar records and logs all activities that take place during any remote access session, leaving a complete audit trail.
Installation
While legacy remote access software like pcAnywhere and VNC, as well as newer, personal use tools like GoToMyPC and LogMeIn, must be installed on each and every system you support, Bomgar enables you to gain access to unattended Windows computers within your network without any software pre-installation. To access unattended Windows computers on a remote network to which you have admin privileges, all that needs to be installed is a single Jumpoint agent on a system within that network.
Licensing
Remote access software like pcAnywhere, VNC, GoToMyPC, and LogMeIn is licensed on a per-computer basis, requiring you to have a license for each remote computer you support. Bomgar licensing is based on concurrent support reps, enabling you to install as many Jump agents on as many systems as you want - the only licenses you need are for your support reps.
